Water removal

Extraction equipment

Getting the water out is the first job. Extraction removes standing water and pulls it out of carpet and pad, which is far faster than drying it out of the air afterwards.

What extraction equipment does on a job

Every gallon we extract is a gallon the dehumidifiers don't have to pull out of the air. Extraction is the fastest, cheapest step in drying a building, so it happens first and it happens thoroughly.

For standing water we use pumps. For water held in carpet, pad and hard floors we use powerful vacuum extractors with wands and weighted tools that squeeze water out as they pull it up.

Types we use

EquipmentBest forHow it worksTypical setting
Submersible pumpsStanding waterSits in the water and pumps it out through a hose to a drain or outside. Used when water is more than an inch or two deep.Basements, garages, floods
Truck-mounted extractorLarge jobs, carpetA powerful vacuum mounted in the truck, with long hoses into the house. The strongest suction we carry.Whole homes, commercial
Portable extractorsUpper floors, tight spacesCarried into the building and plugged in. Used where hoses from the truck can't reach.Apartments, high-rises
Weighted and ride-on toolsCarpet and padA technician stands on the tool so it presses water out of the pad while the extractor pulls it up.Wet carpet

How we use them on your job

  1. Check for safety

Power to wet areas is shut off and the water source is stopped before anyone works in standing water.

  2. Find the edges

Moisture meters show how far the water spread under flooring and into walls.

  3. Pump and extract

Standing water is pumped out, then carpet, pad and hard floors are extracted in passes.

  4. Decide what stays

Pad and some flooring may have to come out. We explain what and why before removing anything.

  5. Set up drying

Air movers and dehumidifiers go in right after extraction so the drying starts the same day.

Common questions

How long does extraction take?

For most homes, a few hours on the first visit. Large or commercial losses can take longer, and we give you an estimate once we see the scope.

Can my carpet be saved?

Often, if the water was clean and it is extracted quickly. Carpet pad usually has to be replaced. Carpet soaked by sewage or floodwater is removed.

Where does the water go?

Clean water goes to a drain. Contaminated water is handled and disposed of according to local rules.

Is extraction covered by insurance?

When the water damage itself is covered, extraction is part of the mitigation and normally billed to your carrier with the rest of the job.

Don't let damage linger.

Mold and structural damage can start within 24 to 48 hours of water exposure. Get a free estimate and immediate dispatch.
