HEPA air scrubbers

An air scrubber pulls in room air, runs it through a HEPA filter and pushes clean air back out. It captures the mold spores, soot and dust that cleanup work puts into the air.

What HEPA air scrubbers do on a job

Cleanup stirs things up. Removing moldy drywall, cleaning soot or tearing out sewage-soaked materials sends particles into the air. An air scrubber keeps cycling the air through a HEPA filter so those particles are captured instead of settling elsewhere.

HEPA filters capture at least 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns, the size that is hardest to catch. Most units also have a carbon pre-filter to help with odor.

Types we use

SetupBest forHow it worksTypical setting
Recirculating scrubberSoot, dust, general cleanupFilters the air inside the room and returns it to the same room. Lowers the particle count while people work.Fire cleanup, demolition

How we use them on your job

  1. Plan the airflow

We decide where the dirty work happens and where the air should flow.

  2. Contain if needed

For mold and sewage, the work area is sealed off with plastic before anything is removed.

  3. Run during the work

Scrubbers run the whole time materials are being removed or cleaned.

  4. Change filters

Filters are checked and replaced as they load up, and bagged before they leave the area.

  5. Run after cleanup

Units keep running after the work is done to clear what is still in the air.

Common questions

What is the difference between an air scrubber and a negative air machine?

It is often the same machine. As a scrubber it filters and returns air to the room. Ducted to the outside, it becomes a negative air machine that keeps the work area under lower pressure.

How long do they run?

The whole time cleanup is underway and usually a day or so after, depending on the job.

Is it safe to stay in the house?

For most jobs, yes, outside the work area. For heavy mold, sewage or smoke we will tell you honestly if staying elsewhere for a few days is safer.

Will an air scrubber get rid of mold?

No. It captures spores in the air. The mold itself has to be removed and the moisture problem fixed.

Don't let damage linger.

Mold and structural damage can start within 24 to 48 hours of water exposure. Get a free estimate and immediate dispatch.
